Update From Your AFA Negotiating Committee

December 9, 2011

Dear Hawaiian Flight Attendant:

Your AFA negotiating team met in HNL October 3-13; November 14-18; and November 28-December 9.

As you may recall we have been using the Interest Based Bargaining approach to try to reach an agreement on an expedited basis. Our goal had been to reach an agreement by December 9th. While we have reached tentative agreements on numerous issues, we were not able to come to terms on the overall contract in time to meet this goal. However, given the progress that has been made, both AFA's committee and the company's committee believe there is merit to continuing the process. As such we have mutually agreed to extend the process and have set meeting dates for January.

It is important to remember that you will ultimately decide whether or not any agreement we may reach is acceptable to you. Any agreement reached will be presented to you for ratification. If the majority of you find it acceptable, then we will have succeeded. If the majority of you do not find it acceptable, then we will return to the bargaining table and try again. In the meantime, stay in tune and look for our next update after the January session. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact one of your AFA officers or a member of the AFA Negotiating Committee.

Our next set of meetings is scheduled for January 3-13 in HNL. Your AFA Negotiating Team would like to wish each of you a very happy and safe holiday season!

Aloha and Safe Flying,

Sharon Soper, MEC President

Diana Huihui, Negotiating Committee Chair

Scott Akau, Negotiating Committee Member and HNL LEC President

Ka'imi Lee, Negotiating Committee Member

Mark Littleton, AFA-CWA Sr. Staff Negotiator

Update From Your AFA Negotiating Committee - July 22, 2011

Contract Clean-Up Language released - July 22, 2011

In accordance with Section 34. Letters of Agreement, #17 Contract Clean-Up Process, a clearer contract is presented for you.

"From 2009 through 2011 the parties to this agreement endeavored to rationalize the agreement by incorporating, wherever possible, Letters of Agreement into the body of the Agreement, correcting typographical errors, repositioning certain provisions within the Agreement and by eliminating provisions that were no longer applicable. This exercise was purely clerical in nature and was in no way meant to change any intent, application or understanding of any negotiated provisions. While both parties have put forth their best efforts to make sure that all references have been cross-checked and that there are no typographical errors, should any such errors be subsequently identified, the parties agree that they will have no bearing on the relevant intent and/or application and such errors will be corrected in the next printing of the agreement." (From #17 Contract Clean-Up Process)

If you wish to keep an electronic copy, they are all pdf files and you can download them to your computer by right clicking and saving to your hard drive or flash drive.
